Although Rush had been right about how my dad would have reacted if he’d found me pregnant and unmarried in Paris, he still hadn’t been thrilled by the fact that I’d gotten married to a man he knew nothing about without any of my family there. Especially since he’d only gotten to walk Grace down the aisle after she was already a married mom of twins who didn’t even get to finish her I do’s before the fire alarm had gone off at that disaster of a wedding.
Rush’s lips pressed together as his nostrils flared with a huff. “Gabby isn’t dating until she’s thirty. Maybe forty.”
“Quit trying to rile him up.” My mom giggled and poked my dad in the side. “How often do I need to remind you that you don’t have room to talk with how you claimed me?”
“You can’t expect me to be rational when it comes to my girls,” my dad muttered.
Rush nodded. “That’s something we can agree on.”
The two most important men in my life shared a look of understanding, and I fell even harder for my beautiful daughter because she was helping to create a stronger bond between them. “You still have one more shot, Dad.”
My dad’s brows drew together, making my mom shake her head with a laugh. “She means Hope, dear.”
“Oh, hell no.” Rush’s mom stole Gabby from his arms while my dad glared at me. “I’m locking your baby sister in the house during her teenage years. Probably her twenties, too.”
Rush tapped his finger against his chin. “Not sure that’d be enough. Maybe we should start putting tracking devices on the girls.”
“You better be this overprotective over any sons we have.” I wagged my finger at my husband before turning my glare on my dad. “I noticed that you didn’t say anything about Tucker or Jackson.”
He ignored me as he shot a look at Rush. “Not a bad idea. If I’d done it a year ago, I would’ve known that text from Faith was bogus when her tracker turned up in Paris.”
Rush crossed his arms over his broad chest with a smug grin, and I just knew that he was thinking about how he’d taken my virginity in the bedroom on the plane. Before he could say anything I would regret, I pressed my hands together and gave him and my dad the biggest puppy dog eyes I could muster. “I’m famished. I’d just about kill for a double cheeseburger from Shake Shack and a malt from Lexington Candy Shop.”
“I’ll order the burger.”
“And I’ll get the shake.”
My husband and father spoke in unison, working as a team to make sure I had exactly what I wanted as they dashed out of the room. Rush’s parents were too busy marveling over their first granddaughter to notice that they had left. My mom moved to the side of the bed and patted my hand. “Nicely done, sweetie. You handled them well.”
I grinned up at her. “I’m not sure why you sound so surprised. I learned from the best…you.”
Epilogue
Rush
“Baldwyne!” Caffrey yelled, pulling my attention from the floor below nozzle I was cleaning. “Your wife is here.” He strolled behind the truck and into my line of sight, grinning widely. “I think you’re in trooooouble,” he crowed.
“How did you get past the third grade?” I asked, rolling my eyes. “It seems like it would be blatantly obvious that you never matured beyond that.”
“That doesn’t make him wrong,” my wife huffed, following Caffrey. She put her hand on her sexy as fuck hip and cocked it out as she glared at me. She’d given me two babies, and she’d grown even sexier with each one.
The funny thing was that my dream had been somewhat accurate. Not about the car, but the night the doctor gave us the all clear, Faith had practically attacked me after Gabby was asleep. Which was how she ended up pregnant with Brice eight weeks after giving birth to our daughter.
She’d been a little freaked out at first since she was just getting the hang of the mom thing with Gabby. But Faith was the most amazing mother, and my confidence in her seemed to help ease her fears. It also helped that I was extremely hands-on with my kids. I loved being a dad, and each time one of my babies called me “Daddy,” they could pretty much get anything they wanted.
“Hey, blue eyes,” I greeted her with a warm smile as I set down the tool and stood so I could pull her into my arms and kiss her quickly. “What brings you by? Other than the fact that you miss me terribly.”
Faith was in a bit of a fog from my kiss, but she shook it off, and a stern expression replaced her dreamy look. She frowned at me and pushed against my chest so she could take a step back. I let her, but only because I wanted to find out what was upsetting her so I could fix it.
