“Congratulations. Beth told me.”
“We don’t know yet. I’ve got the test. I don’t even know if she knows.”
He chuckled. “Well, what are you waiting for? She’s right there. Go and get her, man.”
Dog cleared his throat. “This life, I know it’s … it has a lot of dangers. Death being high up there. We’ve had to burry a lot of brothers in our time.”
“Don’t, Dog.”
“I need to do this. If anything was to ever happen to me, take care of her. I … I fucked up with her. I nearly lost her so many times, and the thought of her hurting or not having anyone kills me.”
Forge gripped his shoulder. “You’re not going to die. I won’t let it happen because I think it’s going to be so much fucking fun to watch you chasing after that woman and a kid. I hope you get a daughter just so I can watch you try to scare all those little bastards away when she’s of age. You don’t need reassurance from me. Sable is club property. She’ll be protected and loved. You have my word, but not because she’s your old lady. Because she earned that right a long time ago. Now, stop being a pansy ass and go get her.”
Dog took a breath and headed toward Sable.
She was getting used to him just hauling her over his shoulder and taking her to wherever he wanted to go. If she was pregnant, would that continue to harm the baby? He had so many questions and concerns. The first step was confirming if she carried his child.
Rather than taking her caveman style, he was more of a gentleman and grabbed her hand, leading her back up to his room.
Again, her laughter followed behind him.
“It seems I’ve got to go, Beth,” she said, calling toward her friend. “What is it, Dog?”
He closed the door and pressed her up against it. “I love you.”
“And I love you.” She cocked her head, confusion in her eyes.
“I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
“I know.” She wrapped her arms around his neck. “But we’ve got to talk about how you keep taking me when you want me.”
“You love it so stop your moaning.” He pulled the test out of his pocket and held it up. “I think it’s time we know.”
All color drained from her face. “Oh. Do you … what do you want it to say?”
“I don’t care. I want you pregnant. I want you to belong to me in every way that matters.”
Again, that smile was on her lips. “Okay.”
“But first, I do need you to realize that I’m not going to kick you out. This isn’t some game to me. You’re my old lady, Sable. I’m not going to get bored, nor am I looking for an out.” He stroked her cheek. “I’m in love with you. I want it all. Kids, to come home to you, to fight, to make up, and to know that at the end of each day, you’re going to be waiting for me.” Tears filled her eyes and he groaned. “Don’t cry.”
“They’re happy tears, Dog. You have no idea how many times I’ve wanted you to say that. How I’ve dreamed of you saying something like that. I want forever with you too.”
He glanced down at the test. “Let’s take it. Let’s see what it says.”
“You’re not going to watch me pee,” she said. “That would be gross.”
“I’ll look away.”
They entered his bathroom and he felt her hands shake within his.
“I’m here, no matter what. If it says no, we’ll try again. I happen to enjoy breeding my woman.”
“And if it says yes?” she asked.
“Then we’ll try to make it twins.”
She chuckled. “I don’t think it works like that.”
“I’ll make it work.” He kissed her hard as she laughed.
They stopped, reading through the instructions.
“Right, let’s do this.”
He didn’t watch but held her hand as she peed on the stick. She placed it on a piece of tissue paper on the counter as she washed her hands, and then he wrapped his arms around her, resting his head on top of hers, waiting.
“What do you want to name it if it’s a girl?”
“Fuck off,” he said.
“Dog, be serious.”
“I am. I bet our daughter will look so beautiful and I’ll be constantly telling guys to fuck off. May as well give them a reason to steer clear.”
“You’re not being serious. I like Ashley or Cole for a boy,” she said. “What do you think?”
“I guess. I’m not good with names. You can do all the naming.”
He kissed her neck, his hands moving up from her waist to cup her tits.
“Dog, it’s time,” she said.
Together, they leaned over to look at the pregnancy test kit. “What does that mean?”
She picked up the box and glanced up at him, a huge smile on her face. “I’m pregnant.”
