The question distracted him and he had to look down at his treasures to hold up a blue one. Since words still weren’t being used, I did my best to remember what he’d originally said. “The dragon?”
He seemed very proud of me for remembering the color the dragon was supposed to be. I wasn’t sure if he doubted my ability to keep track of details or if my coloring skills were still being severely questioned but I smiled anyway because he was too cute. “You’re going to make it very pretty.”
Charlie nodded like that had never been in question.
“I can’t wait to see how it’s going to look.” And even if I ended up a fascinating mix of colors, it’d wash off in a few showers or faster if I followed the quick oops, this needs to come off right now directions on the box.
He was nearly bouncing he was so excited and didn’t seem to realize anyone else was in the room. Every ounce of his concentration was on his markers and my chest, and he looked like an artist who couldn’t wait to play with his canvas.
“Hello, gentlemen. Can we visit with you for a while?” It seemed fitting to be hanging out with an artist as Charlie colored, so I was glad when Jonah and his alphas waved at us from the other side of the couch as the rest of the group nodded.
I didn’t know the alphas in the group as well as I did Jonah and Dakota, but I knew none of them as well as I did Austin. However, Jonah always gave off a relaxing presence and his alphas seemed like good Doms, and Dakota’s distracted smile said he was mostly lost in his own world as his Dom chattered with Russ.
Charlie’s complete lack of reaction to any of them said he didn’t have any issues with the group either, even if he wasn’t going to actually acknowledge them. But that didn’t seem to surprise any of them.
“Of course.” Jonah smiled but didn’t call attention to Charlie and his alphas stayed very quiet, probably so they didn’t spook my shy boy.
I wasn’t sure it was necessary but it probably couldn’t hurt until I got him distracted.
“We were just hanging out until it’s my turn to take the reins from Wade.” Jonah was doing his best to focus on me but I could see the curiosity on his face as Charlie settled down on my lap, markers in hand. “It’s been fairly quiet tonight but there’s going to be a scene in about an hour.”
Something about the way his eyes glanced over at Charlie said the scene wasn’t going to be something my cute boy could ignore. So I nodded as I stripped off my shirt, loving the way Charlie wiggled and the excited sound he made. “Good to know. Thanks.”
Jonah started to say something else but stopped mid-motion and even Dakota tuned back into reality, cocking his head curiously. As Dakota stared, Jonah’s mouth opened and I could see logical thought behind his eyes but then Charlie popped off the first top and settled in to make me pretty. “Oh…”
Charlie twitched, like on some level he’d heard it, but he was mostly lost in his own world as he started to slowly color the dragon. I was glad we’d found an activity that he was comfortable doing outside of the playroom, but I’d severely underestimated how distracting the soft tip of the marker would be against my skin.
“That’s…so fascinating.” The awe in Jonah’s voice was impossible to ignore, so even Charlie did another wiggle and made a happy sound around the binkie. “A human canvas.”
“A human coloring book.” My response had his partners chuckling and Dakota doing a slow nod thing that made me question what was going through his head. “I’m not going to be hung on a wall.”
That had a distinct horror movie vibe, so I wanted to avoid anything that made me sound like I would be pretty stretched out on a canvas. The way his Doms’ eyes sparkled said they got it too but not the funny artist.
Jonah simply nodded distractedly and I wasn’t sure he’d actually heard me. “Yes. That’s right.”
His alphas, Russ and Graham, were doing their best not to laugh, but it was easy to see they were head over heels for their distractible, artistic mate and thought he was the cutest sub ever.
That meant they got to volunteer to be his canvas.
They managed to hold back their delight but I could see the struggle as Russ tried to make it all seem perfectly normal. “I think you’re going to start a trend.”
“That wasn’t my goal but it wouldn’t surprise me.” I tried to stay still and not laugh as Charlie focused, nodding vaguely to show he was paying attention on some level, but it was difficult. “I’d originally thought just about the littles when I bought them online, but seeing Jonah’s reaction…I should’ve thought bigger.”
