A friendship that went deeper than any Tam had known before, and was clouded with desires he was too nervous to act on. Their conversations always flowed and their silences were never awkward. They laughed easily together and had a similar sense of humor. Even though they’d had such different life experiences, they’d found common ground. They were alike in so many ways.

Tam had never thought he’d click with anyone like this. Everything worked. Even when it didn’t, the contrasts were the little imperfections that meant the diamond was one of a kind and all the more valuable.

It made him want to try for more, even though he knew it was a mistake. What if this was it? His one chance to be normal, to have the things everyone else had, and he let it slip away because he was scared?

He’d never forgive himself.

After all he’d been through, he knew how to grab on to the good things and hold them close. That was why he couldn’t let the Sassy Boyz fall apart.

And why he couldn’t let this chance pass him by.

Tam played with the hole in his jeans and cast a sideways glance at Driver. He reclined, legs crossed, feet on the coffee table with one arm stretched along the back of the sofa. His eyes were closed like he was already sleeping.

“We still have Dirty Dancing, if you want to stay.”

Driver peeked at him but otherwise didn’t move. “I’m not going anywhere.”

Chapter Eighteen

Watching Dirty Dancing with Tam was a lesson in self-control if Driver ever had one. Somehow they’d ended up with Tam’s feet on his lap and the temptation had been too much to resist. He’d started giving Tam a foot massage around the time that Baby received her first dance lesson. It had started innocently enough. He hadn’t set out to seduce. But slowly, his efforts shifted from harmless kneading of tired muscles to dangerous stroking with the intention of lighting Tam’s nerves on fire. It had the exact same effect on Driver, unfortunately.

Once he started touching, he couldn’t stop. And Tam’s moans didn’t help one bit.

Whether it was the sexy on-screen dancing or the way he rubbed Tam’s arches, Driver didn’t know. But every once in a while, Tam would groan, deeply from the back of his throat like he was trying so hard to hold it in, but the pleasure was so intense it came out regardless. Each and every time, Driver’s pulse skyrocketed. His determination rose to swallow everything else, especially his common sense, and soon his attention moved from Tam’s feet to his ankles, to his calves. Anywhere he could reach, because God, he wanted to feel Tam’s skin. Everywhere. All of it. He wanted Tam laid out and bare, begging for anything Driver could give.

He wanted the right to touch and kiss and play even though he didn’t deserve it.

Maybe it was foolish. No, it definitely was. There was no denying how irrational he was being because he knew himself. He didn’t stay. He didn’t have deep meaningful relationships. He didn’t stick.

And the last thing Tam needed was someone as flighty and unstable as Driver.

None of that mattered when their eyes met though. Even in the darkness of Tam’s living room, lit only by the flashing colors of the television, they connected and Driver could read every desire Tam had never voiced. All his longing for something he thought he couldn’t have.

It drove Driver to the brink, the need to surrender to the pull. To be the man that could give Tam that vital part of himself back. The thing he’d lost before he ever owned it, the thing that had been so cruelly stolen from him.

Passion and the freedom that went with it.

Eventually the movie faded into the background because he was so focused on Tam’s body—the way he arched his back whenever Driver moved his thumb in little circles near his inner thigh. Or how his breathing quickened and his eyelids fluttered like he was fighting to watch Patrick Swayze beguile Jennifer Grey with dance.

Driver had seen the movie enough to know how enticing they were together, and for a moment he imagined he was the Johnny character and Tam was Baby. Oh, how they’d move, like the night of Tam’s party, only this time Driver would have skills enough to keep up. He’d wrap Tam’s slender body in his arms and sway and thrust and twist.

They’d dance just like they were making love.

And then after, their naked bodies would come together in the most ancient type of choreography.

Fuck, he should stop thinking about it. His cock was throbbing behind his zipper and every time Tam adjusted his foot he’d rub against Driver’s erection accidentally.

At least, Driver thought it was accidentally.

What if it wasn’t?

Holding his breath, he glanced over to the opposite end of the sofa. Tam’s hair was spread out and he watched the screen, but as if he sensed Driver’s scrutiny, he turned. His lips parted and his eyes widened.
