“I won’t be having sex with anyone else until we’re done.”

“Me neither.” Obviously. “We should shake on it.”

“We should kiss on it instead.”

I liked that idea. And when Gideon took my mouth, pushing me down to my back and lying on top of me…I came again.

It was awesome.

CHAPTER TWELVE

Gideon

A week had gone by. Milo and I had jerked each other off almost every day, sometimes twice a day. Once he just wanted to watch me jack myself while he took care of himself because he didn’t feel like being touched, or, as he put it, peopling, and another time he was too pissed for orgasms because of a phone call with his mom. I didn’t know what had happened, but it was clear to me she wanted to know what was going on in Milo’s life and also to have a say in it.

We hadn’t gone any further yet. I was following his lead, but like him, I was looking forward to blow jobs and fucking. If it never happened, I’d be okay with that too. I just liked spending time with Milo—that was the most important thing, no matter how good orgasms felt with him. And they did.

I rolled over, pulled on some underwear, and got out of bed. One trip through the apartment told me Milo was already at the bookstore for the day. He was making great progress. I wished I could stay and help him, but it was a mandatory family beach day.

I showered and got ready before heading to the bookstore. The door was unlocked, so I slipped inside to see Milo on a ladder, using a gun to nail a board to the back wall.

I watched him for a second. He was good with his hands and building, and that had surprised me. I hated that it had. As much as I tried not to, I was human and had my own preconceived ideas about people. It was something I actively worked not to do, even more now that I’d met him.

When he finished, he climbed down and noticed me. “Goggles and hard hat, please.”

“I’m not working or even close to you.”

“Gideon!”

“Fine, fine.” There was a table beside me with extras, so I put them on. “It’s looking really good in here.”

“Thank you. I feel like I’m behind, and then I had three uneven cuts this morning, which I don’t typically do. I think I stayed up too late making you come. I try to get a solid eight hours.”

“Oops?” I teased, and he laughed.

“It was fun. And I could have gotten up later, but that would have just frustrated me in other ways, so it is what it is.”

“I’d stay and help if I could. I used to fix things for Gene and Wilma pretty often.”

“You missed the porch stairs,” he said without a hint of humor in his voice.

“So you’ve told me. I didn’t do work for them they didn’t ask me to do.”

His eyes widened behind his goggles. “Was that rude of me?”

“No.” I shook my head. “You’re fine. Wanna take the day off and head home with me?” I hadn’t meant to ask, but now that I had, I was glad.

“Why would I want to do that?”

I tried not to frown, but I wasn’t sure I succeeded. “I don’t know. I just thought you might want to take the day off, is all.” And at some point, unless he moved, he would meet my family. It was hard not to see everyone in Little Beach. But the truth was, I just wanted to hang out with him. My family was great, we loved each other, but I still always felt like the oddball with them. It would have been nice to be around someone who…hell, I never felt that around Milo, did I? Like I didn’t belong.

“Oh. Well, thank you, but no, thanks. I have my own personal things to do today.”

“Have fun with your personal shit, I guess.” My words came out harsher than I’d meant, and the fact that they had was disconcerting. Why the hell was I annoyed?

“You’re mad at me, and I’m really confused about why. You invited me somewhere, and I said no, thank you.”

“Fuck.” I tried to run a hand through my hair but just knocked the hat off. “I’m not mad at you. I’m just being an idiot. Ignore me.”

Milo cocked his head, his eyes slightly squinty as he studied me. “Did you want me to come with you for some reason?”

“No,” I lied. Because even if I did, why should he rearrange his day for me? Especially for no good reason.

“Okay. I can, if you want, because we’re friends, and that’s what friends do for each other.”

I shook my head. “You’re fine, Lo. You have shit to do, so you can do it. Maybe I didn’t get enough sleep either—that, or you drained my brain out of my balls somehow. I’m not sure I’ve come on such a consistent basis in my life.”
