My whole body overheated, and a tremble rocked through me. Fuck, did I like that, liked hearing that from Camden. In that moment, I wanted to give him something. I wasn’t sure he realized how much he’d given me since we met—friendship, an ear, laughs, making me feel less alone, and he made me feel good, so fucking good.

“I usually hate that. My whole life I’ve heard how beautiful I am, and it’s always made me uncomfortable.”

“Shit. I’m sorry. I wouldn’t have said it if I’d known. Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because…” Reaching up, I began to stroke his back. “Because I like it from you. I did from the start. Don’t know why it was different, but it was. Is.” My pulse thudded, and my chest felt tight. I didn’t do well, admitting shit like that. Talking about my feelings. That was a Sandoval family trait. But damned if I didn’t feel Cam smile in the dark, and that helped.

“Oh, you got it bad for me, don’t you? Someone’s got a crush.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I countered, needing the levity of the moment. “Most of the time, you make me crazy.”

“Crazy horny? Crazy turned on? Crazy in crush with me?”

I laughed. “In crush with you?”

“Don’t try and deny it.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I said again, but I was pretty sure we both knew I did. “Now be quiet and go to sleep. I’m trying to get some sleep here.”

“Whatever you say, Boyfriend,” Cam replied, that stupid, addicting smile still in his voice.

I woke up with Cam’s face stuffed in the crease of my neck, one of his arms and one leg slung over me, the weight of his firm muscles heavy on me. His dick was hard against my hip, which obviously was a new experience for me.

My fingers tingled with the urge to reach down and stroke him, to feel comfortable enough to pleasure him, but I was still settling into my bones and wasn’t sure where we really stood as we teased the lines of friendship, fake boyfriends, and, well, fuck buddies. So instead I tried to gently ease out from under him, but Cam moaned and held my arm.

“Where are you going?”

“To take a leak,” I replied, and he rolled over, watching me as I stood and walked to the bathroom. It was different in the light of day, recalling what we did the night before, the things we said, and having the lingering effects of his hands and mouth on me.

I pushed the door closed behind me and took a quick piss, then washed my hands. When I went back into the room, Cam was sitting on the edge of the bed. He stretched and smiled. “You want some space?”

“No,” I answered honestly. “Though I might be a little testy until I have my coffee. I’m not a morning person.”

“Okay. Coffee, then we’ll cook breakfast. I’m fucking starving.”

He was so easygoing. It was like nothing shook him, which was one of my favorite things about him.

I tugged on a pair of sweats, and we went to the kitchen. Cam made himself at home, looking through the fridge while I took my medication and started coffee.

“Bacon, eggs, and hash browns?” he asked.

“Sounds good to me.” I grabbed skillets for the potatoes and the bacon, just as there was a knock at the door.

“Go ahead and grab it. I’ll get started.”

The condo was small, a one-bedroom with the kitchen not far from the door. When I opened it, Theo stood there with his sketchbook under his arm and his ever-present beanie tugged down low on his forehead. “Hey! Sorry to disturb you. If it’s too early, I can come back. Or not come back at all if I’m bugging you. I was just hanging out, and I wondered if you were around, which is sort of dumb. Of course you’re around. You live here. Do you want me to leave?”

Jesus, this kid. He spoke so fast, it took me a minute to comprehend everything he said, but when I did, it made me…sad. How lonely must he be to want to hang out with some random neighbor guy he didn’t know? And he automatically assumed I wouldn’t want him around. “No, I definitely don’t want you to go. You’re welcome here anytime if your mom doesn’t mind.”

“Are you sure?” Theo asked.

Cam called out, “Get your ass in here for breakfast. We’re cooking.” I knew it was to make Theo feel more comfortable, and I appreciated the hell out of it, but then it reminded me he was there. It would be obvious he’d spent the night, and we were both shirtless, making breakfast together.

“Oh my God, really? I’m starving!” Theo sneaked past me into the unit. “Hey, Construction Guy. That’s fine if I call you that, right? You said I could call you that, but I don’t know if you were joking or not.”
