She giggled. “I am pretty badass, aren’t I, Daddy?”

He rolled his eyes. “You are, kitten, but maybe don’t use that kind of language unless you want your bottom spanked, naughty girl.” He tapped her nose.

She shuddered as she looked around the room, taking in everything else. “You’ve been busy in here today.”

“Yep. I wanted this room to be perfect before any other room.” He grabbed one of her favorite stuffed Eeyores and tucked it into her arms. She’d learned it helped her transition from her adult self to her Little persona when she got home if she not only changed immediately but also wrapped her arms around a stuffie.

As she hugged Eeyore tight, she wandered around the room. There was a bookshelf now covered with toys and books. She was excited for her Daddy to read to her every night. She loved when he read to her. Or maybe she simply loved snuggling in his lap and having one-on-one time.

She ran her hand along the gorgeous crib. “The mattress is so low, Daddy.”

He set his hands on her shoulders from behind. “That’s so Little girls don’t get out when they’re supposed to be sleeping. Daddy will raise the side up high to keep you safe.”

She tipped her head back to look at him nervously. “But I like sleeping with you, Daddy. Am I going to sleep in here now instead?”

He leaned over and kissed her forehead. “I like it when you sleep with me, too, kitten. Most nights, I’ll want you in my bed. But sometimes, Little girls need a night alone, and Little girls definitely need a place to nap.”

“Naps?” Her voice rose in a squeak. “I don’t need naps, Daddy.”

He chuckled. “You will some days, kitten. On the days when you have a break in your schedule, you’ll feel rejuvenated to meet your evening clients after a nice nap.”

She shook her head. “Who would tuck me in?” she challenged.

He stepped in front of her and squatted down so they were eye to eye, holding her biceps. “You know I work odd hours, kitten. Sometimes I’ll be home in the afternoon and tuck you in myself. Sometimes, you’ll be expected to do so without me. You won’t be able to lift the railing, but I bet you won’t fall out.”

She giggled. “Of course not, Daddy.”

His face grew serious. “And one other thing, kitten. Sometimes Daddy works nights. You’ll be glad to have your crib on those nights so you can snuggle in with all your stuffies when I’m not here. Daddy’s big bed would seem far too large for a Little girl alone.”

She nodded. “Oh. I forgot about that. I don’t think I’m going to like the nights when you’re not with me.”

He pulled her into his arms. “I won’t like them either, but that’s part of my job. It will ease my mind to know you’re safe and secure in your crib while I’m out fighting bad guys.”

“Okay, Daddy,” she agreed verbally, knowing his job and the hours he worked were a fact of life she was going to have to learn to live with.

When he stood, she continued looking around the room. The next piece of furniture that caught her eye was odd. She wasn’t sure what it was, but her heart rate picked up when she noticed piles of diapers on the shelf below the padded top surface.

“Daddy?” She glanced at him, her voice trembling.

He ran a hand over her hair. “It’s a changing table, kitten. Don’t panic. Sometimes, Little girls need to spend time being completely cared for by their Daddies. When you’re ready, we’ll add some baby time into your schedule.”

Her lip trembled. The thought of being diapered made her very nervous. “Do all Little girls wear diapers?”

“Nope. Not all. And not all the time. Daddy will know when you need extra care like that, kitten. Don’t you worry.”

Lark met his gaze again. “Do Ellie and Daisy wear diapers, Daddy?” She’d never had that discussion with her best friend.

“I suspect they do when they’re at home, kitten, but that’s between their Daddies and them. It’s not my place to ask. If you want to talk about it with your friends, I think it would be a good idea.”

Lark wasn’t sure she wanted to bring up that subject with Ellie or Daisy. She would be mortified and embarrassed if they told her they didn’t wear diapers. What if acting like a very young baby was something only Wyatt expected?

“I have bottles and pacifiers, too, kitten. Even if you’re not wearing a diaper, sometimes you might like to take a bottle while sitting in Daddy’s lap while I read to you.” He bent down, swooped Lark off the floor, and cradled her in his arms.

She squealed. “Daddy!”

He tickled her under her chin and carried her over to the rocking chair. After carefully moving her clothes to the changing table, he settled with her in his lap and met her gaze. “Sometimes Little girls feel anxious and upset. A pacifier can really help calm your nerves if you’ve had a rough day.”
