But wait… Whip had mentioned protection. Were the Shirleys why?
“Okay, I really have to go before I’m late and Max hands me my ass on a platter.”
“Yum,” Teddy purred. “I’ll take a platter full of that ass with a side of—”
“T,” Adam growled shaking his head.
Right before his husband walked out the door, Teddy called out, “Love you, lover.”
Adam paused and glanced over his shoulder. “Love you more.”
“Impossible.”
Adam shot him a warm smile and the door shut behind him.
Teddy turned back to Fallon, once again catching her gaze in the mirror and sighed. “I’m the luckiest bastard in the world.”
“He loves you very much.”
He grabbed a comb and a pair of scissors for the trim. “I’m not sure why he puts up with me, but I’m damn glad he does.”
“That’s the sweetest.”
“Mmm hmm.” Teddy began to snip off the ends of her hair. “So, tell me more about you and the cutie-patootie Whip… I want to hear eeeeeeeverything!”
“There’s really not much to say. He found me broken down on Copperhead Road, pulled over to help me and—”
Teddy gasped loudly and slapped a long-fingered hand to his chest. “He rode in and saved you like a knight in shining armor! Awwwww. How fabulous!”
“Yes, well…”
“And he swept you off your feet and look at you now… You have your tush in my chair, you two will get married, have pretty babies and live happily ever after. And so will I because you’ll become one of my regulars.” He clapped his hands together and bounced on his toes. “A real life fairy tale!”
Mira gurgled in her bouncer nearby. Though, she probably wasn’t old enough to bounce in it yet. Fallon wasn’t sure. She didn’t know much about babies since she had been an only child herself.
“See? Even my angel agrees with her tada.”
“Tada?”
“Oh yes. Like Dada but it starts with a T and ends with flair.” He kicked out a heel and threw an arm up in the air. “Taaaadaaaaa!”
The man was too much. “Too cute. As for Whip, I only met him a week ago.”
“The universe knows when a match is made in Heaven.”
They were nothing like that. It was simply chance that Whip came along when he did, wasn’t it? It had nothing to do with fate. Right? No, it couldn’t. They got along, yes. Had great sex, yes. Had easy and great conversation, yes… Did she enjoy spending time with him? Very much so.
Shit.
No, it was nothing like… “Like you and Adam?”
“We definitely had an instant spark.” He wiggled his fingers in the air simulating little explosions. “The second I saw him across that parking lot, I knew I finally found a Bryson Buck of my very own. It was like he fell from the puffy clouds above. The angels were singing and a bright rainbow appeared like a halo around his handsome head. My gay prayers had been answered.” He pressed his palms together, dipped his head and murmured, “Aaaaah men.”
“Wow.” The man was quite the storyteller.
“Yes, it was quite a wow moment. Then he ripped my cigarette from my mouth, smashed it on the ground and told me he doesn’t kiss smokers.”
Fallon grinned. “I guess he was enough motivation to quit?”
“Giiiiirl, that night I smashed the rest of the pack myself. I’ve screwed up a lot in my life but that man,” he sighed, “and the whole Bryson family…” He sniffled loudly and flapped a hand in front of his face. “Look at me getting the vapors.” He took a deep inhale. “And now we’re married and have our very own munchkin.”
“Will you have any more?”
His hands moved efficiently and expertly as he continued to trim the ends of her hair, turning her this way and that to make sure everything was even. “We haven’t decided yet. We struggled to find the right surrogate who would accept our combined baby batter.”
It took her a second to figure out what he meant. She wasn’t sure whether to laugh or gag at the term. “Do you want to know whose batter made the cake?”
She couldn’t believe she was calling sperm baby batter. She’d never be able to scrape that out of her head again. She hoped like hell that wouldn’t pop into her head whenever a man came.
“I’m sure we’ll figure it out once Mira’s eye color changes. If they turn green, one of my swimmers was the winner. And if not, then…” He shrugged. “Though, I’m pretty sure Adam’s swimmers were more determined to cross the finish line first, while mine… Well, they probably paused to do some synchronized swimming along the way.”
Fallon chuckled. “Do you care whose was the winner?”
Teddy didn’t even hesitate to answer. “No. If we did, there would’ve only been one of us providing the ingredients for that recipe. But enough about me and my handsome lover, tell me more, more, more about you and our young virile Whip. I want to hear all the juicy details.”
