“Yo,” Cage called out, stopping Easy in his tracks when he started to leave.

He glanced back over his shoulder to see Cage jerk his head in a way that made Easy return to where the road captain leaned his ass against the table. His brother’s arms were crossed over his chest, his brown eyes troubled and his mouth tight.

“Don’t need to know how much this is gonna suck, brother. Already know. Even though Judge wielded that fuckin’ club with a shitload of restraint, I saw you after the fact and won’t forget it anytime soon. But, fuck me, I’m pretty fuckin’ sure Trip ain’t gonna hold back like Judge did.”

Cage shook his head. “Ain’t about that.”

“Then what?”

“Your sled.”

Easy closed his eyes and pictured his sled the day he and Shade picked it up in Jersey. It was beautiful. Perfect. It purred like a content lioness with a full belly. It had been his dream bike. Now he had no idea about the extent of the damage. “It totaled?”

“Nah. You got lucky. If it was a head-on collision, it woulda been a lot worse. For you, Tessa and that damn sled. But like you, it just got a buncha road rash. Anythin’ mechanical Whip can handle. For the bodywork, I suggest takin’ it down to Shadow Valley for them to fix. Ain’t gonna be cheap. Hope you got good insurance on it.”

“Yeah.” Thank fuck he did. For once he had made a good choice and got full coverage since the bike was practically new. The insurance might not cover all of the repairs but would make repairing it doable. Right now he just needed it to be operational, not pretty.

“You’re gonna be without a ride for a while,” the road captain warned, “since Whip plans on workin’ on it after hours for no charge except parts.”

“That ain’t what I’m worried about right now.”

Cage shot a quick glance at the open door to the meeting room. “She’s good, brother. She’ll heal. You two were lucky as fuck. If what Trip does to you is the worst thing to come outta it, you’ll be good.”

“Tell me that after my blanket party.”

“Better hope he uses a blanket. You wouldn’t think it would make a damn difference but I swear it does. Anything to soften that fuckin’ blow. Save some of those muscles relaxers if the doc didn’t give you a refill. Promise you, you’re gonna need them.”

“Great,” Easy muttered. “Can you give her a message?”

“You already fucked up enough. You wanna add that to the list, too?”

“It’s just a message.”

“Yeah? Then text her ‘cause I’m done bein’ stuck in the middle of your cluster-fuck.”

“Thought she lost her phone in the crash?”

“She did,” Cage confirmed. “Jemma got her a new one this mornin’ on her way to work.”

“Same number?”

Cage gave a single nod. “Same number.”

“Guessin’ you ain’t gonna snitch about this.”

“Do I look like a fuckin’ snitch?” Cage looked insulted.

“No. Know you ain’t ‘cause you done time just like me. You learned to look the other fuckin’ way and keep your trap shut.”

Cage nodded again. “Done a shitload more time than you so I know that lesson only too well. But gonna say this, she ain’t gonna be sneakin’ out these next two weeks. That I guarantee. Let things settle down with Trip. Figure out what you want. I’m gonna tell her the same. Then after her brother beats you to within an inch of your life, you make your play if that’s what you want. If not, let Tessa go. She’s got a home with us. She fits in perfectly. Dyna loves her. And for fuck’s sake, I certainly don’t wanna lose her.” He leaned in and poked Easy in the chest. “Don’t fuck this up, E.”

Unfortunately, he already screwed the pooch in more ways than one. Now he just needed to find a way to fix it.

Not only with Tessa’s brother, either.

Chapter Fifteen

The skin under her cast itched like hell. She stopped wearing the sling so she didn’t feel so damn helpless. Her bruises were turning some ugly shades and making her look like someone took The Punisher to her.

She was still sore. Being limited to only taking acetaminophen hadn’t helped as much as she hoped. She considered taking something stronger anyway.

But she couldn’t. She wouldn’t.

As much as she was still in shock that she was pregnant, every time she thought about how much she didn’t want this baby, how she wasn’t ready for this baby, she began to get weighed down with guilt.

For that reason, she did what the doctor ordered.

Jemma had been surprised that the doctor hadn’t prescribed Tessa muscle relaxers and more powerful painkillers when Easy had been.

Tessa couldn’t tell her the truth. Not yet. Maybe not ever.

She might not have to, either. She had been lightly spotting the last couple of days.
