“Blink!” she cried out, her eyes widening in horror.

“Get her away from that mess,” I barked at Carter when he moved toward me.

He immediately changed direction and lifted Lindsey from behind the bar, depositing her a few feet away from the glass. He then pointed at Eric, who was sitting frozen at the bar, staring at me with wide, horrified eyes. “Get the broom and dustpan. Clean this shit up.”

I dropped into the chair Carver pulled out for me. Grit was immediately there, dropping his massive first-aid kit on the table. I looked at Carter and Carver. “Go with Brian to help make sure he gets the guns he came for. Clear? Follow him back home. We’ll talk when you get back.”

They both nodded. Brian looked down at me, pointing a stiff finger in my face. “You better stay alive, brother.”

I nodded at him. “Same for you.”

He walked out of the clubhouse, and Carver and Carter followed out behind him. Grit shoved my cut off before ripping my shirt so half of it fell to my lap.

“Blink…” Lindsey whispered, tears filling her eyes as she neared us, her hands shaking.

“I’m alright, darlin’,” I grunted. I closed my eyes, swallowing vomit. “Little fuckin’ dizzy. That’s all.”

“Keep your eyes open,” Grit snapped at me. I peeked one eye open so he knew I was awake. “Probably lost too much blood, but ain’t shit I can do about that.” He began prepping a syringe of numbing agents. “Lindsey, keep his ass distracted.”

“I can help,” Lindsey told him. “Please let me help.”

He looked at her. “You can help by keeping him distracted. Because if he punches me and knocks my ass out, ain’t shit I can do for him after that.”

She nodded. I patted my lap. “Come here.”

Grit moved aside long enough for her to sit on my lap. I wrapped my good arm around her waist and burrowed my face in the curve of her neck. “Talk to me. About anything.” I was pleading. Because I knew this was about to fucking hurt like a bitch.

Her fingers carded into my hair, and Grit pricked my skin with the needle, injecting the first dose of the numbing medication. I gritted my teeth against the pain, a low rumble sounding from my chest. “Eric tried going home again,” Lindsey began. “His mom wouldn’t let him in. I guess the boyfriend doesn’t like him.”

“Fucking bitch,” I muttered against her skin. “He a good kid at least?”

“Mhm.” Her fingers continued their rhythmic combing through my hair, soothing me. “He and Carver clashed heads earlier, but he’s alright otherwise. Got a bit of a temper.”

“The first time he loses it with you is the day he’ll lose all his teeth,” I promised her. The numbing medicine was beginning to work, so I didn’t even notice Grit begin to dig the bullet out of my shoulder. He worked silently, letting Lindsey distract me.

“He’s just a troubled boy, Blink,” she told me softly.

I grunted. “Don’t give a fuck. He’s old enough to know right from wrong, and you’re the reason he has a safe place to stay. He better show you every ounce of respect you’re owed. He wouldn’t be here otherwise.”

She sighed. “You’re too overprotective.”

I tightened my hand around her hip, and she squeaked in surprise. “Never protective enough, Lindsey.” I sighed, my head too fucking light. “Fuck, I’m tired.”

She pinched my neck, and I grunted, blinking, my lashes fanning across her skin. “Don’t go to sleep, Blink. Not right now. What do you want to eat? I can make anything. Tell me your favorite food.”

“You,” I blurted. “You taste sweet—”

“Blink!” she yelled at me. I snickered—even heard Grit chuckling. “I’m not a meal,” she hissed. “And Eric can hear everything you say.”

“I promise, a kid like that knows what pussy is.” I lifted my head and looked at Eric, who was quietly watching us, the mess on the floor long cleaned up. “Ain’t that right, Sabotage?”

He just shrugged, which was answer enough. I smirked. “Remember to wrap it up,” I told him. “Kids are a pain in the ass. Too many diapers. Got to deal with baby mamas.” I shook my head. He laughed a little. “Ain’t worth it, man.”

“Jesus fucking Christ, Blink!” Lindsey shouted at me.

I quietly laughed before burrowing my face back in her sweet-smelling neck. I had no idea what perfume she used, but it smelled so fucking good. Made me feel like I was transported to an exotic beach somewhere. Like I was lying on the sand with the hot, summer sun beating down on my body, a beachy alcoholic drink in my hand.

“I’m addicted to you,” I mumbled.

She sighed. “Oh, Blink. You’re definitely suffering from blood loss.”

I hummed, nuzzling into her neck. “Stay with me forever.”

She sighed, and I felt her lips press to the top of my head. “I’ll stay as long as you’ll have me,” she promised.
