“One day, she will come back to you,” Gabriel said.

It was fine for Gabriel to say. He was still close to his own sister, Emma. Jacob couldn’t even get a couple of moments alone with Tamsin to talk to her. She’d been married for two years, and yet, other than forced functions where she stayed as far away from them all as possible, none of them had seen her.

The Christmas and birthday gifts were returned to them. She never accepted anything from them, and he even noticed when she and Mason came for dinner, she didn’t eat their food.

Why did his father have to go and fuck everything up?

“Is your wife pregnant yet?” Paul Savonas greeted Mason as he walked into his office.

Mason had already been warned that his father was there. From time to time, Paul randomly dropped by for a visit.

“What are you doing here?”

Since their contract with the Dentons, Mason had been able to open a casino on the opposite side of the city. They didn’t rival the Dentons, but the revenue from each venture was now equally shared.

Mason also saw that there were no threats to the Denton turf, and they did the same for him.

“Answer my questions first, son,” Paul said.

He didn’t like the way he said the word “son,” it sounded dirty, like he wasn’t happy. Mason didn’t give a fuck if his father was happy or not. He doubted anything in this world could make this miserable son of a bitch happy apart from taking Tamsin and raping her.

As the years went on, he hoped his father’s interest in Tamsin would fade. That was the hope. Fucking pervert.

Mason didn’t get it. He had been with his fair share of women. He was nearly thirty years old himself. There was eleven years, give or take a month or two between him and Tamsin. He’d not lived like a monk, until he had gotten married. Women had flocked to him. All he had to do was snap his fingers and they came to him without a question asked. Some of them even begged him. He had no interest. He had never cared about any of them. They were just enjoyment to pass the time. Yes, he loved sex, but they were just there.

It messed with his head how much he thought about Tamsin. In the morning, she was all he could think about, all he wanted and craved. Sometimes, all he wanted was to see her.

She didn’t know this, or if she did, she hadn’t told him to stop. He’d wander down to her bedroom and open her door just a little so he could catch a peek at her. That was all he needed—just a little peek. Seeing her would help to calm that feeling deep inside him. Then, of course, throughout the day he would think of her.

His father was one of the reasons he had stopped coming to work. He had started to make an appearance more and more, and it was a little disconcerting to him.

He wasn’t happy.

Today, he had no choice but to come to work. At least while his father was in his company, he knew Tamsin would be safe. His men knew to keep her at home and not let her out of their sight.

David should be in the garden, and with the sun in the sky, he knew Tamsin would be there. She loved to be in the garden, and enjoyed David’s company. Mason held onto that feeling of jealousy.

He would gladly get into a fight with his father, but he knew there were certain battles worth fighting. This was not one of them.

“No, Father, Tamsin is not pregnant yet.”

He hated that Paul was in his seat. These visits were sparing, but they rankled, and Mason had a feeling his father did this on purpose. This was his way of telling him without using words who was in control.

Connor and Reese were in the process of arranging a meeting with Albert Delcoties. They needed to make sure it was done with finesse. Their father couldn’t know. Everything took time and had to be secretive, which was annoying. He ignored the annoyance, and instead looked at his father.

Paul tutted. “You know, son, I thought you would be the right man for the job, because you are my son. You do know how to get a woman pregnant, don’t you?”

Mason glared at his father. “You know I do.”

Paul slammed his hand down on the table. “Do not give me lip, boy. Anyone else would have already had a brat with that Denton bitch. Why are you taking your time?”

“Tamsin is my wife. When I am ready to have a child, I will have one with her.”

His father got to his feet. “In case you didn’t know this, boy, I will speak plainly to you. Get your dick in that bitch, knock her up, and do so before the end of the year, or else.”
