“Will there be a wedding or not?” the man, who is some sort of ordained something or other to even have the legal power to perform a wedding, asks.

“No,” Legacy says the same time Devyn says, “Yes.”

“There will not,” Kincaid says, his words final.

“Someone owes me five hundred dollars.”

Legacy doesn’t waste a second pulling his wallet out, ignoring the golden envelope that flutters to the ground. The man is paid and Devyn glares at the side of Legacy’s face.

It’s extremely clear the girl isn’t going to just fade into the background.

“You signed it,” she says, flipping to a page and holding it in his face.

The man stands to the side, his eyes glued on Devyn.

“Brent,” Sunshine whispers, her voice full of motherly concern.

I take another step forward, and so does Stormy.

“You coming with me?” the man asks.

An echo of noise rings out in the room. Legacy’s the loudest.

The man walks away with his money, but he doesn’t leave unsupervised. Both Hound and Shadow escort him outside and no doubt off the property with a threat veiled as a warning if he thinks it’s a good idea to return.

“What is going on right now?” Travis asks, but I don’t have an answer for him. He’s seen as much as I have.

“Where’s Vaughan?” Sunshine whispers when Devyn and Legacy just continue to stare at each other.

“Died less than a year after joining the Corps with Legacy.”

“Oh shit,” Sunshine gasps.

Oh shit is right.
