She bit her lip and stared at him.

Grayson couldn’t believe how well this was going. Much smoother and better than he’d imagined.

“I was reading a self-help book, and it said I should take charge of my own happiness instead of waiting for someone else to show up to do it for me. That’s why I ordered all the things I really wanted for my birthday.”

He picked up her hand, threaded their fingers together, and brought her knuckles to his lips. “Like the cupcake onesie.”

“Yeah, and other things for, uh, Littles.”

He frowned. “You don’t have things for Littles?”

She shook her head. “I was too nervous to indulge that side of me. I was afraid someone would find out and make fun of me. But then I realized I never have anyone over, so who would know? So, I ordered all those things to arrive every day leading up to my birthday, and then I planned to have a party for myself and indulge my Little to her heart’s content.”

He was both proud of her and sad for her. It hurt his heart that she’d been so alone with her kink, but on the other hand, he was certainly glad she didn’t already have a Daddy.

“I know you don’t know me very well yet, Baby girl, but I wonder if you’ll let me come over every night after work this week so you can get to know me, and then by Saturday for your birthday, you’ll be more comfortable celebrating with me. How does that sound?”

She chewed adorably on the bottom corner of her lip while a smile formed until she dropped her lip to grin wider. “Really?”

“Of course. I’ll pick up the cupcakes myself. I’ll bring presents too. It will be the best birthday party ever.” God, he hoped he was exaggerating. Surely she’d had fun parties at some point in her life.

Suddenly, she lurched forward and wrapped her arms around his neck, hugging him fiercely.

Grayson rubbed his hands up her back and held her just as close, lifting her slightly to settle her properly on his lap. He closed his eyes for a moment and enjoyed the feel of holding her, inhaling the scent of her shampoo and something strawberry flavored. He bet it was her lip gloss. He couldn’t wait to taste it. Not tonight but soon.

When she released him, she tried to scramble off his lap. “I’m sorry. I don’t know what I was thinking.”

He kept his arm around her hips, holding her steady. “I’m not sorry, Baby girl. I like you here on my lap. Will you stay?”

She looked up at him and settled. “Okay.”

He patted the upper swell of her bottom. He wasn’t a fan of Little girls wearing jeans, so he made a mental note to buy her some comfortable clothing that would help her center herself in her Little space after work.

“Tell me what it is you do for a living, Cupcake. In all the time I’ve known you, I’ve never had a clue what you do in here all day. I can tell you work from home, but doing what?”

“Have you heard of Evan Parker?”

“The photographer who won all those awards for his Tour of Flowers book?”

She nodded and grinned. “That’s the one. I’m his assistant.”

Grayson’s jaw dropped. “For real? That’s so exciting.”

She shrugged. “It’s not really that exciting. I spend most of my time organizing his pictures, helping him with social media, and maintaining his calendar. It’s not really very glamorous, but it’s fun when I tell someone I work for him and they get that shocked expression you just had.”

Grayson chuckled. “I guess that would be fun. And you work from home,” he stated.

“Yep. So does Evan. He lives here in town with his…with his girlfriend, Tori.”

“Ah. How nice.” Grayson assumed she’d been about to say Little girl. He was pretty sure the times he’d seen Evan in town, he’d been with a woman who could easily be Little.

“How long have you been a delivery driver?” she asked.

He liked that she cared to return the question and learn about him too.

“Well, I wasn’t always a delivery driver. I started this business on my own a few years ago. I like working for myself and taking contracts with places who need delivery services. I like meeting so many people. Sometimes it’s tough if there’s a big angry dog or if the person at the door thinks I’m trying to sell them something, but most of the time it’s rewarding. People get so excited when their packages arrive.”

“What did you do before that?” she asked with genuine curiosity.

“I was in the Army. Twenty years. Retired two years ago.”

“Oh.” Her eyes widened. “You’re…kind of…”

He chuckled. “Old?”

She scrunched up her face. “Not that I care.”

He laughed again. “I’m forty, Cupcake. Not too old to be a Daddy to an adorable Little girl.” He tickled her gently to make her giggle. It worked. “How old are you, Cupcake?”
