I was the one who made the MKs believe that Drexel was the one they needed to get on board in order for them to deal in our backyard. I knew Drexel would never go for it, because he had a good thing going with his meth labs and his own line of coke coming across the border. He wasn’t one for sharing. And I knew how to keep the MKs out of my backyard. I’d made more than a few friends in the army who were now working for the FEDs. All it took was one phone call.

Once I had the MKs on the hook, I let shit slip to Drexel through my cousin. By the time of his death the old man had been suspicious of his second in command, but I always left enough room for doubt so he was never sure. It tormented his ass I was sure. He had to be wondering if karma had come back to bite him in the ass.

Up until then, he really was going to give her to that fuck. I didn’t add her into the equation, never expected her dad to send her to me, or to leave his will the way he did. I’ll have to think about that later.

Now Sanchez was on the run, the law was in the MKs ass and I was free and clear. My only worry now was whether or not I was going to tell her the truth.

“You hanging around?”

“You know it. Somebody gotta hang around here and watch your back if you’re gonna let those assholes in your club.”

“Not all of them. I’m not that fucking stupid. I’ve already culled the herd.”

“Glad to hear it. So, you’re gonna marry her.”

“Yes, but not because of that will.”

“You don’t have to tell me. I knew her for a year remember.” I didn’t like his grin and the fuck was doing it on purpose.

“It would be so sad if you survived that hellhole for a year and a half only to end up out back with my hogs.” He laughed harder.

“You know I’m just fucking with you. She’s a good kid. Smart, nice, classy. Just what you need cuz, I’m happy for you. I gotta head back before I’m missed Saturday can’t come soon enough.”

“I hear that. Thanks cuz I know this wasn’t easy.”

“Yeah it was. It was family.” He left just as silently as he came and I headed back inside to my warm bed and my even hotter woman.

Chapter 17

STONE

***

“Don’t forget baby, go to your friend’s place and the restaurant then right back here. Call me as soon as you get there...”

“I know-I know you’ve told me a thousand times already.” Shit, I had to let her go, I promised.

I hugged her like it was the last time I was gonna see her before helping her into her car. The shit had been parked out back since the day she drove here looking for protection.

I watched her pull out before following on my ride. I was going to the clubhouse she was headed in the opposite direction. I’d caved and let her go meet up with her friends. After my conversation with Cisco a few nights ago, things have been quiet around here.

I was still not happy with the fact that Sanchez was in the wind. I needed proof that his ass was dead or at the very least that he was on the other side of the country.

The MKs had been dealt with, but they were never my problem, they never knew of my involvement so I was never on their radar. My hands were full with all the new members now that the Jokers had closed their doors for good. My people aren’t exactly thrilled to have the motherfuckers who’d given us hell all these years in our midst and I didn’t blame them.

The only saving grace is that I’d only let those men and women who had never really been a problem for us through our gates. The others didn’t even bother showing their faces. It must’ve been the most peaceful hand over in the history of MCs.

We’d met with the lawyer yesterday but only after I’d forbidden him to mention the marriage thing to her. I explained that I wanted to tell her about that shit in my own time, so instead he’d told her something about a trust. Which wasn’t exactly a lie. If I didn’t marry her- her money would be there in seven years.

She didn’t seem too worried about it. Her only interest had been in getting into the home she’d shared with her dad so she could get some of her shit to bring back to my place.

We’d had a big fight over that shit because I told her I wouldn’t set foot in that place if my nuts were in a sling. She didn’t see what the big deal was since it was as much her home as it had been his. In her mind she saw it as the perfect setup. We could have our place in the country and keep that one in the city for nights when we didn’t want to come out this far. I told her to put the shit on the market or burn it. I didn’t care which.
