War? What war?

I want him all to myself.

Just the very thought of him doing this with someone else makes my stomach twist.

I am developing feelings for the enemy.

Not exactly how the plan was meant to go.

Riggs gets himself dressed, and I follow, not taking my eyes from his. We stare at each other. I don’t know if he feels it too, but the swelling in my chest and the rapid pounding of my heart is proving to be somewhat of a distraction.

It’s unusual, and I’m not sure if I’m ready for these kinds of feelings.

Does he feel them too?

God, I’m acting like we’re in love.

I shake my head and turn. “As always, you bring good fun,” I murmur, washing my hands in the sink.

I don’t really have any reason to wash them, but I do anyway, mostly so I can turn away from him.

I’m afraid he’ll see exactly how I feel.

He walks up behind me, sliding his hands around my waist and leaning in until his mouth is by my ear and his breath is making my legs shake. “I’ll be over tonight for more fun. See you later, angel.”

I clench my eyes shut and listen as he leaves.

Angel.

What is he doing to me?

I’m falling for him.

God dammit.

Get it together, Eve.

I lock up the café and head out to make my way back to my apartment when I’m stopped by a gorgeous woman who waves me down just as I lock the door.

“Oh, no, you’re closed!” she says, looking bummed.

“Sorry,” I shrug. “You just missed me.”

“I’m new in town, do you know anywhere good to eat? I’m in desperate need of some pizza, or something equally as bad.”

I glance at her. The woman has the kind of body any one of us would die for. Not too skinny, not too curvy, just the perfect dips and shape. She’s gorgeous with long black hair in perfect curls, and the biggest, prettiest blue eyes I’ve ever seen. Her skin is soft, tanned, and it’s clear she’s possibly of Spanish background. She’s spectacular, there is no doubt she has done some modeling in her life.

I’m sure she would have.

“You know, I’m hungry too,” I say. “Do you want to go and eat with me?”

Her eyes light up. “Really? That would be great. I don’t know anybody yet and I’m a bit lost. I’m Carmen.”

“I’m Eve, it’s nice to meet you, Carmen.”

We start walking, and I ask the mysterious gorgeous stranger about her life.

“What brings you here?”

“I broke up with my husband and needed a change I guess. I decided to just pick a place and make a go of it. I loved the look of this little town, it’s so rustic and gorgeous. I saw your café online, and I wanted to visit it so badly. You have great reviews.”

I smile. “Thank you, I put a lot into it.”

“I can see that. I am starting work as a hotel receptionist in town tomorrow, so that’s a job out of the way. I just got an apartment, but it’s not unpacked so I’m running around frantically at the moment trying to find food, because I don’t have anything organized.”

I laugh. “That’s the worst, the first night when everything is all over the place and you just want to eat, drink wine, and pretend it’s not there.”

She laughs too. “Exactly it! I’m glad someone understands.”

“Oh, I get it. I’m the kind of person that’ll stare at a box for weeks, knowing it would only take me minutes to unpack it but not wanting to.”

She nods enthusiastically. “That’s me, too!”

We laugh and talk all the way to the closest restaurant, which, luckily for her, is a pizza and pasta place. We get a table and order. While we wait, we settle in over a glass of wine. She’s so easy to talk to—she’s funny and bubbly and I get along with her incredibly easily, considering we just met. I have no doubt I’ll have a new friend in her, and I’m always up for new friends.

“Tell me about the men in this town,” she asks, leaning forward, pretty eyes smiling even when she’s not. “Any good ones?”

I snort. “There are a few, it depends on your type. I know there are heaps of businessmen around, if that’s your thing.”

She waves a hand. “Ick, no, I like a bad boy.”

“Well, if that’s the case, you’ll love the bikers that run the garage next door to me. They’re a good looking bunch.”

Her eyes widen. “Bikers? As in, wearing leather, riding bikes, bikers?”

“Yep, those are the ones.” I chuckle. “And they’re good looking, too.”

“How good looking at we talking here?”

“Oh, like melt your panties off good looking.”

She laughs, clapping her hands. “I’m in. Where do I find one of these bikers?”

I grin. “I’ll introduce you. I’m actually kind of seeing one, well, we’re ... you know?”
