Another lie.
“How about we take you along and you can point the way?”
“You need to fuckin’ release me before my MC makes you regret what you’re doin’.”
Decker threw his head back and howled with laughter. Loudly. Sounding like a man who lost his fucking mind.
It might be an act, but it was damn convincing.
“You think those motherfuckers give a fuck about you? You’re only a fuckin’ tool to them. Disposable. They ain’t lookin’ for you. They wouldn’t think twice if I flayed you open and staked you in front of the Wolf Den. You know what they’d do? Replace you. Losers like you are a dime a dozen. There are plenty more where you come from, hidin’ in your mommy’s basements.”
“Fuck you!” T-Bone spat at Decker.
“Man, you’re gonna hurt my feelings.” Decker grabbed a handful of the man’s stringy hair and used it to tug his head higher. “Now… Want the truth and only the fuckin’ truth. I detect a lie, you’re gonna pay for each one you tell. You get me?”
“Fuck you,” T-Bone grumbled.
“Feel a tear formin’…” Decker sniffled. “Know you didn’t just drop off your fuckin’ meal ticket at a motel. Know you’ve had contact with her recently ‘cause you’re a greedy low-life. So… When’s the last time you’ve seen her?” He added, “You lie, you’re gonna regret it to the point where you’re more than shittin’ your fuckin’ pants.”
When T-Bone pinned his lips together, Decker leaned down and got right in his face again to bellow, “When? Not answerin’ is gonna be treated the same as a lie. You don’t got the upper hand here, T-Bag. We do. Might wanna think on that.”
“I tell you, you gonna let me go?”
“Yep.”
Rez rolled his lips under to keep from making a noise at Decker’s lie.
“Two days ago.”
“But you don’t know the motel’s name.”
“It had the word motel in it. Didn’t pay much attention to the rest.”
“How’d you pay for it?”
“Cash.”
Fuck, that meant no receipt. Rez wasn’t surprised that the prospect didn’t have a credit card but he wouldn’t put it past the thief to use a stolen one.
“How long has she been there?”
“A while.”
“She been there since you stole her from the hospital?”
“I didn’t fuckin—” When Decker’s hand curled into a fist, T-Bone quickly changed course. “No.”
Decker inhaled a breath so deep they could all hear it. His patience was running thin and about to snap. They needed to wrap this up soon.
Nox stepped up to Decker and whispered something in his ear. Decker’s chest expanded, held, then contracted before he nodded.
Then in a movement as quick as lightning, Decker grabbed the prospect by the throat and slammed his head into the fender, causing a big dent.
Damn, that had to hurt.
Good.
Decker squatted down and jabbed a finger in the moaning prospect’s face. “I owe you, motherfucker. Not only for what you did to Sadie, but for what you did to my ol’ lady. Better not close your eyes for too fuckin’ long, ‘cause if you do, you’re gonna see me in your fuckin’ nightmares.” He stood and took a step back.
“I’m done with that used-up cunt, anyway.”
Oh shit!
Nox moved close behind Decker, most likely so he could keep him from killing T-Bone.
“Gonna give Viper the heads up to where he can locate you. That’s after we tell him you’ve been skimmin’ off the top. Bet he ain’t gonna be happy about that. Got a feelin’ your days are fuckin’ numbered.”
“You can’t fuckin’ leave me here!”
“Says who?” Decker turned and as he began to head toward Rez, he threw over his shoulder, “She better be in Wheeling or tonight will be just a taste of what we’re gonna do to you next.”
“Viper’s not gonna believe you!”
Rez could taste the man’s desperation but couldn’t drum up any sympathy for the poor bastard.
“Then you got nothin’ to worry about except for the coyote I just heard. Maybe he’ll help keep you warm tonight.” Decker tipped his head and said to the rest of them, “Let’s go. Done with this piece of shit for now.” As he began to walk away, he stopped dead and shook his head. “I lied. Not done with this motherfucker yet.” He went back to T-Bone and got into his face. “Need to know one more thing.”
“I’ll tell you whatever you wanna know if you lemme go.”
“How’d you find out where I live?” he growled.
T-Bone’s mouth opened but nothing came out.
Decker’s shout filled the night. “How the fuck did you find out where I live?”
“It was easy,” the prospect answered.
Oh shit.
“How?” Decker demanded.
When T-Bone hesitated, Decker tipped his head. Apparently, just that motion alone was enough of a warning that it had the prospect talking so quickly he stumbled over his words. “Followed you home one night. Saw where you lived. Came back when you weren’t there.”
Oh fuck.
An undercover officer living at home while on a dangerous assignment was risky, but with Decker raising Val, he couldn’t easily live elsewhere like Fletch and Wilder.
