“Just a reminder,” the task force leader began, “T-Bone isn’t a task force priority. He’s not a key player when it comes to the meth trafficking. He’s only a priority for Decker. Searching for T-Bone and Sloane’s sister needs to be done off the federal time clock.”
“And that’s how we’ve been handling it,” Decker assured him. “But some of that search happens to overlap with task force business.”
“Speaking of T-Bone… How’s your pussy?” Nox asked.
“Don’t talk about Finn like that. He’s sitting right there.” Decker grinned.
“The cat’s more kickass than the human version. Who would’ve thought that orange hairball was a badass guard dog in disguise?” Rez said in regards to the feline Finn attacking T-Bone when he broke into Decker’s house looking for Sadie and ended up abducting Sloane, instead.
“He loves his girl,” Decker said. “But he’s doing good. Still on forced rest, though, and definitely letting us know he’s not happy about it.”
“Next order of business,” Crew yelled to catch everyone’s attention.
They sat around that table for over an hour longer sharing information and getting everyone on the team up to speed on the investigation.
Rez sighed in relief when it was finally over. He had his plan set in place and tomorrow night he’d put it into motion.
As some of the members went back to monitoring the recordings, both video and audio, the rest filed out to return to doing whatever duties they were assigned.
“Hey,” Rez called out to Decker as the big man was unfolding himself from the chair. “You heading out?”
“Yeah, planned on it. Valee Girl’s got an appointment with the therapist this afternoon. What’s up?”
Damn, it sucked that the four-year-old had to go to therapy. But after watching T-Bone attack Sloane right in front of her, as well as the biker almost snagging her, too, Decker thought it best to get her some counseling to head off any potential problems.
It was smart.
“Head out to the parking lot with me.”
Decker followed him down the exterior steps and out to the parking lot, where they stopped by Rez’s blacked-out Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat.
“When are you going to let me take this fucker out for a spin?”
“When I decide to sell it and you buy it. In cash.”
“I know you’re fucking with me but, seriously, let me know if you’re planning on selling it. Sloane could use a better vehicle.”
He wasn’t planning on selling it any time soon. It was a hell of a sweet ride. Rez laughed. “This isn’t a vehicle for grocery store runs and kiddie play dates. It—”
“I know. I know. Jesus. It’s got a 710hp, supercharged 6.2L Hellcat V8 under the hood,” he rattled off. “It does zero to sixty in only 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 180 miles per hour.”
“You remembered all that?” Rez laughed and tapped the hood of his SUV. “You must be fantasizing about this baby.”
“No, we’ve only heard your mouth run about the fucker a million times.”
“Hey, it’s worth bragging about. It’s fast as fuck, but definitely not a mommy-mobile.”
“Then I’ll take it and give her mine.”
“Can you afford it?” Rez teased him.
“With Val’s therapy bills and Sloane’s debt due to trying to help Sadie? Probably not.”
“You sure you still want to look for her sister? I mean, by leaving the hospital that day, Sadie proved she doesn’t want help.”
“Because her life is consumed with getting high. If we can get her away from T-Bone…”
Maybe, maybe not. Sloane’s younger sister may be too far gone to help.
“Speaking of that asshole, there’s been no sign of Bonehead at The Peach Pit. Sapphire hasn’t seen him or heard a thing about him, either. Looks like he ghosted everyone.”
“Bonehead?”
“T-Bone.”
“You mean Flank Steak.”
Rez snorted. “Either works. If I can get in over at the Wolf Den, I’ll keep an ear open. But I’ll still sit my ass over at The Peach Pit at night until that motherfucker’s found.”
“I don’t give a fuck about him. I only care about Sadie.”
“But once she’s found…” The rest didn’t need to be said. Once Sadie was found, they’d work on dishing out the karma that T-Bone deserved.
“Yeah, that’s when I’ll care about him,” Decker said.
“And if I find him and Sadie isn’t with him?”
Decker answered, “I guess we can lean on him to get info on where he took her.”
“The problem with that is it’ll raise those red flags.” Not only raise them but have them whipping in the wind.
“Not if he disappears after we question him,” Decker said under his breath.
“Damn, Deck,” Rez murmured.
His BAMC brother shrugged. “It’s inevitable. You know that. We just have to play it right.”
“No, we’ll have to play chess with the Russos and let them do the dirty work for us. Let the criminals do what they do best. And if they take each other out in the process, no loss. The world would be better off.”
