With a low groan, Fletch pulled his face from her neck and captured her mouth once again, while stabbing his cock into her one… two… three more times. And on the third, he yanked his mouth from hers, pinned their damp cheeks together and stayed fully seated as his cock pulsed inside her, almost bringing her to another orgasm.

When he was done coming and when the last wave of her orgasm faded away, they remained wrapped in each other’s arm while trying to catch their breath in the bathroom of an apartment being used as a cover for their task force assignment.

The second he jerked sharply against her, she knew that wasn’t a result from him coming, but because reality had hit him and hit him hard.

The same way it was hitting her.

Like a sledgehammer to their chests.

They had let their sexual attraction take over instead of using their damn heads and following common sense.

She worried that if sex was this satisfying with him against a bathroom sink, all she’d be thinking about in the days, even weeks, to follow was how much better the sex would be in an actual bed.

They were doomed.

She was doomed.

She knew it had been a risk.

The problem was, they were here for an important reason, not to play naked romper room. As she feared, having a sexual relationship with her partner might end up being an unneeded distraction. Even if this ended up being their only time together.

But she couldn’t imagine he wouldn’t want to do this again. Because even though both of them had just come, she was already thinking about that big bed of his with the large mirror over it.

Not good, Nova. You’re not a teenager with some crush. It was dick, not crack.

“Fuck,” he finally mumbled, slowly pulling out and releasing his hold on her.

“This was not a good solution,” she forced up her throat. Because she needed to be clear they were partners, not lovers, even after what they just did. One of them had to be strong enough to prevent this from happening again. “This was a very bad idea.”

His brow furrowed, his lips turned down at the corners and his jaw tightened at her words.

To her, that proved he didn’t agree. But it would be better if they kept their relationship strictly professional. At least until the assignment was over.

Yes, that would be for the best.

For both of them.

Even if he didn’t agree.

He avoided her eyes as he removed the condom, knotted the open end and tossed it into the small trash can next to the toilet. “Thought it would be a mistake. Guess I was right.”

He snagged his boxers from the floor and, without another word or taking the time to pull them on, left the bathroom.

She remained where she stood until she heard his bedroom door close down the hallway. Once she cleaned up again, she headed to bed.

But after what just happened, she doubted she’d get any sleep.

Chapter Fifteen

When the front door buzzer sounded, Nova looked up from cleaning the glass display case at the back of the store near the checkout area. From where she stood, she could see the majority of the pawn shop and keep an eye on customers as they browsed. It also gave her a direct view of anyone entering the store.

She didn’t get involved when customers brought in items to pawn since that took a certain knowledge she did not possess. Instead, she did menial stuff like cleaning the smudges off the glass cases and ringing up customers’ purchases.

Ivy, Jag Jamison’s wife and ol’ lady, normally worked in the office behind the counter area, doing whatever she did for the business. The stunning redhead told Nova she maintained the websites for all the DAMC businesses and did most of the basic bookkeeping for them, as well.

She only filled in on the pawn shop floor and dealt with customers when necessary. Her brother Dex and some other club prospects also worked the floor the same as Nova.

Because of her vantage point, she had no problem seeing the man entering Shadow Valley Pawn.

One Shane Fletcher, aka Ghost.

Even dressing his part as a member of the DAMC, including wearing the club’s colors, the man drew eyes wherever he went. Including Nova’s, especially since she knew what he looked like underneath those clothes.

He was certainly nothing to “sneeze” at.

After spotting her, he took long, smooth strides down the wide aisle that ran from the front entrance of the pawn shop and split the rows of shelving that held everything imaginable that could be pawned.

Before he made it halfway to her, a redheaded girl, almost an exact clone of her mother, stepped out from one of the rows and blocked his path. He abruptly came to a stop to avoid running into her and glanced down in surprise at Ivy and Jag Jamison’s not quite sixteen-year-old daughter.
