Chapter Two
“Which MC?” Cross demanded again before Crew could answer.
“Don’t worry, it’s not the hubby’s. It’s the Deadly Demons. It’s why we’ll have three groups of task force members covering the surrounding states. As you all should already be aware, the Demons’ mother club is located in West Virginia but they’re transporting meth into both Ohio and Pennsylvania. Possibly even into Virginia and other nearby states. However, we’re concentrating on the tri-state area since we have proof of that. The intel also shows the Demons trying to expand their territory into both states. My educated guess behind their reasoning is to build a more solid pipeline as well as increase their numbers to keep that pipeline and the cash flowing.
“Normally, no other MC would blink if the Demon’s stayed in their own territory, but they will sit up and take notice if they encroach on another MC’s area.” He turned on the stool enough to face Axel. “Not sure if your brother’s aware of the territory grab yet or not. If not, we need to try to keep him from finding out about it at this point. We don’t want his MC going to war with the Demons while the task force is doing investigations and members are undercover. That could fuck everything up. Plus, I guarantee it’ll be messy for the Angels if things go sideways.”
Jamison’s nostrils flared and his jaw became sharp. “Got it.”
“They’ll be on a need-to-know basis, because my guess is, we’ll be needing them. They just can’t know all the details. Cross?”
Cross nodded, even though his light blue eyes were troubled. “Yeah, got it.”
“So, what does this have to do with us?” Finn leaned back in his chair and scrubbed a hand down his bearded cheek before crossing his arms over his chest.
“I know you guys well. Even better than a lot of my fellow agents. I’m lucky as fuck that I get to choose my team. Even though four task force members need to be federal agents, the rest can be made up of state and local officers with notable drug arrests, who are trustworthy and also know the area well. None of you are rookies and most of you have quite a few drug arrests under your duty belts.”
“Most,” Monty mumbled from over on the couch.
Crew turned toward her. “I recognize the fact that your job and Frasier’s are just as important as the rest of ours, but they concentrate on different aspects of enforcement. Unfortunately, that means neither of you are a good fit for this particular task force, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be involved.”
“Since they’re running meth through our jurisdictions, this does affect us all,” Jamison said.
“While that’s true,” Crew answered, “a couple of you are no longer working the streets. Like you, Jamison, and also North.”
That made sense to Fletch. Jamison was now a sergeant at the Shadow Valley PD and North was a lieutenant with the Pittsburgh PD. They rarely hit the streets like someone lower in rank.
“The rest of you are in if you want to get involved and, of course, your superiors approve it. Because there will be paperwork and approvals needed. You know how it is, can’t do shit without fighting our way through the red tape. That said, I’m coming to you first before looking outside of our close brotherhood.”
“I’m interested.” Cross said.
Crew raised a hold-up hand and shook his head. “Brother, you and Jamison are automatic no-goes. Even if Jamison hadn’t taken that promotion, your ties to the Dirty Angels are what knee-caps you both from this. Since your hubby is a Dirty Angel and that club is full of Jamison’s family both by blood and by marriage, they’d never approve either of you for that reason alone. However,” Crew shrugged and his mouth pulled up on one side, “that doesn’t mean we can’t use your connections. You could be our bridge between the DAMC and their allies.”
Cross huffed out a sharp laugh. “We’re already hated enough. Axel’s barely tolerated and I’m persona non-grata until I retire. You actually want us to ask them to work with law enforcement?”
“If we need them, we’ll have to give them a beneficial reason to do so,” Crew explained. “But we’ll deal with that later when we need to. It’s just nice to know the option’s there.”
“Agreed,” Jamison answered.
Cross frowned at him. “You really want to risk the relationship you’ve rebuilt with your brother?”
“We wouldn’t be doing anything to risk that.” Jamison turned to Crew. “Right?”
Crew jerked one shoulder up in a half-shrug. “Like everything else in life, brother, there are no guarantees. But basically we might only need a boot to wedge open the door, exactly what you and Cross can provide. After that, some of us can take over dealing with them directly so you don’t have to.”
