He cups my chin with one hand and wipes my eye with the other. “Don’t cry. You’re my beauty and I can’t wait to marry you.”

“Sir, Ma’am, we are at our first major display in the park.”

“Oh my goodness.” I watch the beauty as Colter holds onto me, brushing his hand over my back. We stop at Rockefeller Center and take a few pictures at the tree and get hot cocoa before going around some more. Once we finish, he takes me to a small restaurant where we dine for another hour. It was a magical night, but I’m suddenly so sleepy.

He takes my hand in his, intertwining our fingers. “As wonderful as tonight has been, I’m tired, Colter.”

“I know. We both have a big day tomorrow.”

“Yes, we do.” I have two finals in the morning, and two more on Tuesday and then I’m done with school for the semester. We walked the short two blocks to the parking garage where Jackson was still on duty.

“Welcome back. Did you all have a great evening?” he asks.

“I had the best evening of my life, Jackson. She said yes.” I lift my hand to show Jackson.

“That’s great, sir. Congratulations.”

“Thank you,” we say together, but my voice is drowsy.

“I need to take my sleeping beauty home.”

“Have a good night, sir.”

I start yawning, so Colter picks me up in his arms and carries me the rest of the way. He presses the remote start as we get closer to his vehicle. I cling to him, resting my head and hand on his chest.

“So beautiful.” He kisses the top of my head and I only snuggle closer, feeling his strength and warmth.

Chapter Eight

Colter

“Congrats on another stellar week, North,” Lennox says, walking up to me after our last meeting with a new client. Despite the economy, we’ve had a flood of new business after our latest successes this year.

I shook his hand and smiled because my productivity doubled this week. Maybe it’s because my stress isn’t through the roof, worrying about whether Beth is going to meet someone else while I get my life together.

“Thanks. Maybe it’s the holidays and people are anxious to see a change in revenue for the coming year.”

“Or you got your woman and the world is right in your eyes. I know the feeling.” He claps my back. “I’d ask you if you’d like to stop for a drink, but I’m sure you’re ready to run and get Bethany.”

“Yes, I am. She’s down in Holly Hills working today and I’m anxious to see her. Are you and Celeste going to be there for the Holidays?”

“Yes, she’s going to work from home the next couple of days, and I’m on full dad duty then.” He grins from ear to ear.

“You sound thrilled about it.”

“I am. I don’t always get to play with the boys, but now I have to keep them out of Celeste’s hair while she works, so I’ll be wrestling them around and having tummy time with my massive mini versions of myself.” His boys came out big and didn’t stop growing. They’re tall and large six-month-old babies.

“They really are your duplicates.” He pulls out his phone and shows me a picture of them from yesterday and they’re freaking adorable. Immediately, I thought about Bethany having my babies.

“You’ll get yours soon.”

“I’m trying.” I wink.

“If we don’t see each other, Merry Christmas, Colter.”

“Merry Christmas, Lennox.” We part ways to our offices.

I gather my things and shut off the light. “Enjoy the holidays,” I say to my new assistant as I leave the office. I have to stop and do some last-minute Christmas shopping for my wife-to-be and my family, who over the last couple of days have been driving me insane.

I get another text from my mother about the wedding, and I roll my eyes. My mother wants a summer wedding, but I reminded her that Bethany might be very pregnant by then, so a spring wedding was the best I’m giving any of these ladies.

Luckily, Bethany agrees with me because she doesn’t want to look like she has a beach ball under her wedding dress.

It’s a little after seven when I finally arrive in Holly Hills, so I meet Bethany at the restaurant for dinner instead of the bakery. When I walk in, I’m floored by her sexy black mini dress. Not that she doesn’t look gorgeous as always, but I’m loving the look. “Hello, gorgeous.”

“Hello, Mr. North. I missed you today,” she says, as we greet each other with a light kiss in front of a crowded restaurant. Holly Hills has a diner, a two fast food, and a fancy restaurant, and tonight this was our choice.

“Only today?” I challenged, pretending to be offended.

“Well, I told you I missed when you returned home yesterday.”

“Fair enough, my love. Did you order already?” I ask, after helping her take her seat again. I kiss her temple because I can’t help myself.
