Argon releases inside me as I wrap around his body and hold him close. It’s not until he begins to swell inside me again that I realize we’re floating through the air.
We’re no longer on his dragon’s back. We’re just free-falling as he kisses me with so much passion my toes curl. I claw at his back as a mix of ecstasy and panic takes hold of me.
He breaks the kiss. I look at him wildly. “Trust him.”

Argon
I see the alarm in her eyes, but there’s no need for it. I groan as her nails dig into my flesh. Grabbing two handfuls of her ass, I slowly guide her up and down my shaft.
I know my spirit reflection won’t allow us to hit the ground. He’s just greeting his soul match. Blaise still doesn’t understand what she has just released.
My heart aches as I begin to think of the illusion this all is. Wanting to feel this forever, I turn our bodies, so our feet face the land coming up beneath us. I bring her down harder onto my shaft.
She throws her head back and releases a loud cry into the air. We come together this time. As our bodies are overcome with our release, my spirit dragon swoops in and catches us.
I kiss Blaise’s forehead. “See. I told you. Trust,” I say before I pass out along with the beauty in my arms.
Chapter 21
Awe and Lust
Argon
I look at the scratches on my back in the mirror. That wasn’t a dream or hallucination last night. It was very real.
I don’t know how to feel about that. I don’t understand how this is happening. I shake my head to clear it.
The passion between us was enough to set its own fire. I can still feel the tingling in my spine and the fire in my chest. I’ve never experienced anything like it. But it was with a woman that’s not a woman in my waking hours.
I smile as I think of Blaise during our walks and dates. She does tend to trip over her hooves as if her feet would turn in if they weren’t hooves. Pigeon toed, that’s what I’ve read humans once called it.
It’s odd because she’s so graceful in battle. We’ve sparred together a few times. She’s a fierce warrior. No, she’s not always clumsy at all. It’s more like she trips herself up when she’s nervous or excited. It can be quite adorable and endearing.
“Well, damn. What happened to you?”
“Hello, Dinesh,” I say without turning.
I’m becoming used to him and his antics. It’s quite amusing at times. I cover myself and pull my hair back in a tie.
“Blaise has requested to see you. Wait, what happened to your back?”
I turn to face him. “It’s nothing. Is she all right?”
He eyes me warily for a moment. I get that he’s very protective of Blaise. All of her little friends are.
Still, I grow impatient waiting for his reply. “The princess means the world to me. Don’t you hurt her,” he says tightly.
Princess? I don’t point out his slip. Although it brings to mind the near slips my first day here. Lady Blaise is a princess.
I get the feeling there are so many other secrets I want to find out about her. I itch to gain all the knowledge I can. My spirit roars to know what I’m missing about my soul match.
“I would never hurt her. I could never.”
“Um, sure.” He rolls his eyes at me. “Let’s go. I think this is important.”
He doesn’t have to say another word. The thought of something being wrong with Blaise has my feet in motion. I try to will my way to her, but my power is nowhere near as strong as it was last night.
Frustrated, I pick up the pace. Our spirit link requires I be near her as soon as possible. Although, I still question everything—including my feelings for a half woman, half beast. I have no doubt that she has become my soul match.
Father and the elders are not going to like this.

Blaise
I stare at the rose beneath the glass and let another tear roll down my cheek. Two more petals fall and turn to ashes before they can even hit the surface beneath them. Time is running out.
These dreams are confusing me. They are full of passion and lust, but those are not love. Not to mention, they’re dreams.
I need Argon to fall in love with me in real life. Not in my fantasies. I need him as more than a friend. And now, I will never have that chance.
“Blaise,” he says as he moves to stand behind me. I close my eyes as he places a hand on my waist. My skin heats and tingles run up my side. “What is it?”
I’m too choked up to say a word. I conjure a sphere to appear beside us. When the image in the orb appears, I feel him stiffen.
