“It doesn’t matter what she’s expecting,” I said to calm Remy’s nerves. “I will be a perfect gentleman all evening and if the topic of conversation steers toward more personal matters, I’ll do some course correcting and make sure everyone remembers it is still a business meeting, okay?”

Remy nodded and took a deep breath. It was clear that what I was saying was working.

“If anyone does ask us any personal questions, however, you just leave the answers to me,” I instructed her and rubbed my thumb over the smooth skin of her arm. “I can handle that sort of thing and then we don’t have to worry about getting our stories mixed up, okay?”

Again, Remy nodded, but this time, she dropped her head down and let it hang there. Before I could voice my concern, however, she spoke. “I… I hope this goes well,” she whispered, “but I know that I’m a terrible liar. I’m still so worried I’m going to mess this up for us.”

It was clear that Remy needed further convincing. I removed one hand from her arm and used a finger to lift her chin until her eyes met mine again. This time, however, I noticed just how beautiful her irises were. They were a bright blue color I’d never seen before and I wondered how I hadn’t noticed just how lovely her pretty face was before now. Suddenly, I was much more aware of how close we were than I had been before and I can feel the tension between us growing. My body is heating and reacting to having an attractive woman so close after such a long dry spell.

God, I need to get laid before I land myself in some real trouble here, I told myself with a gulp. Pretending to date Remy was one thing, but actually getting myself involved with her was extremely inappropriate. I still wasn’t sure I even wanted to truly end my bachelorhood and even if I was going to, my secretary would be a terrible choice. There were far too many complications and too many things that could go wrong.

I gulped and realized I’d been silent for far too long. “Don’t worry, Remy,” I said, my voice thick with the arousal I was desperately trying to push down. “You won’t mess anything up. I know you can do this.”

Remy didn’t say anything else after that. She just nodded and pulled away with a red flush on her cheeks, as though she was also embarrassed by her proximity. As she left, I told myself that I needed to hide whatever desire I might have for her to prevent anymore issues. We just needed to pretend we were a couple long enough to get Kelly off our backs while I worked hard to prove to Mr. Anderson how valuable of a person I was--relationship or no relationship.

It should have been simple, but right then it didn’t feel like it was anymore. Why did I get the feeling that this was only going to get more and more complicated?

That evening I was dressed in a new, crisp white shirt from Giorgio Armani accompanied by some casual Levi jeans and a relaxed expression. I pulled up outside Remy’s apartment in my Mercedes and noticed that she was already anxiously awaiting my arrival. She stood outside her apartment building wearing a simple but elegant dress. It was a light shade of blue that matched her eyes, knee length, which was entirely appropriate for the setting, and didn’t look to be a designer label. If anything, the dress was rather plain and yet, the tight material hugged her body in all the right places to flaunt parts of her I’d never seen before when she was in her office wear. Her bulky jackets and loose-fitting trousers had hidden the sensual sway of her hips and the round curve of her breasts that now made me feel like I was coming apart at the seams.

For a moment, I didn’t alert her to my presence. I felt a little shocked, to be honest, and I needed some time to recover my composure. I didn’t want her to get the wrong idea (or more accurately, the right idea). Once I calmed myself down a little, I rolled down my tinted window and smiled over at her.

“Remy!” I called, watching as her head snapped up and she waved back at me. “Come get in.”

As though she needed no further instruction, Remy clutched her purse close to her waist and scurried toward my car in her little kitten heels. She climbed into the passenger seat with ease and as soon as she shut the door, I realized she had filled the car with the delicious scent of her perfume. It was a tantalizing and overwhelming smell that complimented her outfit and her neatly straightened hair. I couldn’t believe how crazy she was driving me already. I’d never felt like this before.
