He sits me on his lap away from the wound, presses his face against the top of my head, and breathes in my hair. “My sweet rose, I love you and hate being away from you for any length of time. Honestly, I was really hurt and I didn’t want you scared. I’d been stabbed in the morning hours and in the hospital before breakfast and I didn’t come home until the next morning because I checked myself out against medical advice. They were treating me at Luca’s place so less snitches getting back to you.”
“You don’t have anyone else.”
“I wouldn’t dare dream of it. You’re all I want or need. I’ve been watching you and the boys nonstop. That’s how I knew you were trying to bolt on me. Luckily, I came home to get some shit done this morning, or I might have been too late to chase you down.”
“You should have told me. We’re in this together. For better or for worse. I already accepted this side of you from day one and you know that.” He nods and kisses my lips.
“I’m sorry. How about you help me get this cleaned up and then I get you all dirty again?”
“I’d like that. And Alessio…no more secrets.”
“I promise.” He carries me into the shower despite his injury and now I know why he stayed away. That wound will never heal if I don’t help him keep his hands off me.
“Maybe I’ll have to tie you to the bed, Mr. D’Amato.”
“Nice try.” With a wink I find myself on my back with my husband on me again. Okay, I don’t mind being tied up for him.
